Fruitful

Heh, today was truly a very wonderful day which even made me feel like penning, or rather jot my thoughts for this day as a memo.

Well, the day started off pretty well, normal camp and office, and by 12 I was off for my MA. For the first time since 2 sessions ago I was on time, way ahead of it infact. Well, it feels good when one is punctual for anything he is expected to be, and indeed an excellent virtue to have. I've got to say that having sweaty palms were kinda like a blessing in disguise for me, since that now I could get the condition improved, it really has made life alot more convenient in more ways than one. Had a brief chat with the friendly nurses there and I'm still quite thankful that my condition wasn't that bad as I thought it was, considering there were people who have to go for this troublesome trip to get their hands or feet soaked in ionised water.

Before heading home, headed for Novena Square to burn abit of time. Well, my first time there was quite nice, the place isnt exactly as big or infested with people, compared to JP or Causeway Pt, it had this cool layout which I took a personal liking for. Headed to MPH hoping to find the Rule of Four, which I eventually did. Ironically, I did not buy the book which I initially should have, and settled for 3 Sherlock Holmes classics (Hound of the Baskervilles included). I always had this thing for thrillers and plot-rich stories with doses of suspence here and there, and Sherlock Holmes was something which I didn't really go that much into when I ought to have long ago. Before I left the store, this book by the name of 'The Time Traveller's Wife" (which I have no clue to who the author is) caught my eye, and having heard great reviews about this book I decided to buy it and examine it closer on my way home. So far I've read just alittle, but its interesting enough to make me wanna continue it soon enough. Come to think about it, I'm quite a sucker for bestsellers mostly due to the fact that it must have been a big-hit to hardcore bookworms out there, so they can't be too lousy, and this is perhaps the single, most-influencing factor to why I bought this 'not-my-genre-kind-of-book'.

On the train back home, one thing made the trip extra special, since it wasnt everyday you would find something happening on a train ride. This thing being that its still quite comforting to know that there are still kind-hearted souls who give up their seats for others who need it more than they do. One particular act of generosity must deserve my utmost respect, in which this ah peh in his early 60s, whom I was standing in front of, kindly gave up his seat for a malay aunty carrying a baby in her left arm while balancing the pram with her right while finding her way in the train. The ah peh himself, though had some bags of grocery with him, still stood up and at once signalled the aunty to his side and helped her to the seat. While others were engrossed in their sms-ing or simply gave that 'i dont care, i was here first' look and pretended that there was nobody standing in the train, this uncle went the little bit more to give his seat up, when he could actually just be like others and let the poor aunty stand there throughout the journey. Its little acts like this that makes one's day so much more enjoyable, and it has also spur me to be more polite than I should be when it comes to just doing that small act which would probably mean so much more to others.

Back home, I had a nice dinner of dishes I havent had for quite a while, and really, nothing beats food you grow up with. Spare the luxuries in the form of tenderloin beef cuts or $30-per-kg sri lankan crabs and bring out the humble, down to earth scrambled eggs and sambal kangkong, beats anything, anytime. After which I had the comfort of being a total crouch-potato and it so happened to be airing the talkshow on channel 8, regarding everything about teenagers going crazy after branded stuff. I suddenly felt it being very relavent in me, for I thought I was getting abit too brand-conscious too. Its a good thing that talkshows like this exist as they often provide you with perspectives you have previously failed to realise, most likely due to the blinding effect that obession brings with it. Even the guests they have for the talkshow is really quite effective, one who happens to be David Gan (you cant possibly not know him). I've got to say that in Mr Gan, I've seen that while branded stuff does work its wonders on boosting one's self-confidence, and that with branding comes the quality and promise that the goods are supposed to bear. However, his view about 'branded goods make the world go round, and people need to live for branded stuff' made me conclude that at the end of the day, substance and education is also quite important in one individual's upbringing, which I dare to say, that David Gan didn't have. I think that comment of his truly reflected the fact that he isnt well-educated, and that his riches were the works of his hairstyling-doings. One's image may be important, but he doesnt have the substance to complement the outlook, at the end of the day he'll just be like any Tom, Dick or Harry. Hmm.. interesting views about chasing over branding has made me think twice about that Crumpler.. hahahaha
