Well, as far as the past month is concerned, its been a really packed month which has given me a fair share of frustration, anger and surges of madness. Now that everything has subsided, I do wish to go back to happier stuff and welcome September on a happier note.
For a start, some pictoral updates of my 'headquarters', where I currently spend 5/7 of the time in.
Just to refresh some memories.. this was one year ago.
I got back the same room this year, but this time around, I've grown smarter and added quite a few things to create that slightly more condusive environment. While it maybe too comfortable at times, I still really like it pretty much!!
This is my roomie's table, or the one I had last year.
Here's mine, but this is only half the picture..
Behold, a fish tank! Okay its not too big a deal, but I am extremely pleased with myself for this achievement. Hur hur something really nice to have in the hall to calm some nerves when I get all cranky.
Here's a closer look of the fine tank that has matured pretty nicely over one month.
Here's the room from my bed.
and the room from my seat.
Note the shelf on the left, yes with the help of my newly graduated, highly promising degree-holder-friend King Hei, we fixed this shelf for some good use in the otherwise small NTU hall room. In this shelf you find the following,
1 - An all-in-one printer/scanner/copier to help me with some colour documents, scanning and simple copying of some tutorial answers/textbook pages.
2 - My new (ok not so new after 1 month)Philips Ipod-dock/alarm clock/fm radio. Thanks to sucky internet in NTU hall (which I am frustrated by how easily it gets dc-ed, or how slow streaming is at night), I have to buy this cool gadget for my fix on radio. Not that I'm complaining, since I also play my ipod tracks off the speakers, and its really quite an all-in-one in its own right.
3 - and of course not forgetting the faithful laser printer which has served me well in the last 2 sems, and will hopefully churn out more quality notes for me in time to come.
And yes, in this space of 40 x 32 x 126 cm worth of space, you find a mini-server of some sort which I can quite safely say no-one else will have! Hahaha.
Well, of course there is also some space for snacks, and I've stocked up well to fight the hunger when I am too busy studying (or at least I hope I will) that I have no time to eat at the canteen, not that its as nice as what I eat at home in the first place.
Now to more academic (and more mundane) stuff...
My new favourite reads.. as if. They make wonderful sleep-inducers.
My timetable which stares at me as I type this entry away happily. It serves to remind me that I have a 830am lecture in 6 hours time, and I'm still doing something as unconstructive as typing this thing over here, which leads me to the next point..
The deceiving short timetable. While my engine friends watch with envy the kind of timetable I have for the same number of modules we take, I can only say, there's more than meets the eye. The hours that go into doing the work to prepare for these lessons go off this record. So I guess the relatively decent timetable is just consolation.
So far I have not kicked into studying really hard, still just making ends meet by doing the tutorials the day before the lesson, and adopting the 'one-step-at-a-time' approach. This has to stop, and soon!
On to other news, I have accquired two pieces of equipment aimed to help me do my work as well, though it will have its critics on how effective they will be (or even how disruptive)
Yes, the iPhone. Pretty neat gadget which offers the luxury of allowing me to carry two gadgets in one package. The ipod capabilities of this device surpasses the ipod nano by leaps and bounds, and the functions of calling, texting, surfing the net justifies the call to retire my W880.
While some of you might have seen me going 'Shurely, or shure good', this is what I have been talking about.
Its a wonderful pair of earphones which I really enjoy alot, far better built than my existing Creative EP630, and comes with a neat price for a earphones its league. Of course, I expect this to be replaced by something else in the future, probably when I start earning my own living.
Currently, this set-up is making me a very happy commuter, or simply much happier as I spend my time out of the hall and lessons.
On a side note, I also wish to share abit of my experiences of working at Comex over the weekend. Being a promoter for a first time, this experience has been vastly different from what I had always been in the past (as a consumer). Selling bluetooth headsets was one thing, but learning how to communicate an idea, selling a product to potential customers and making awesome new friends in 4 days has been eye-opening. I feel I have learnt much in this stint, and I am actually looking forward to getting more opportunities! Hahah, for all I know, the Shure saleslady who told me that I might be able to sell Shure products at the next show is very tempting! One downside though, standing up to 12 hours, going hungry for 9 hours is actually pretty horrific an experience! Its survivable, but seriously you won't want to experience it for 4 days.
Wow, a long post in a long time. Now that I've really penned some fruitful experiences, I better hit the bed before I spend my time sleeping in lecture later!
