a long post before a long break

wow i just realised i forgot to post last week and its almost 3 weeks since the last one! well quite a bit of updates, to start with work, time in office is always on double-quick time as there is much to keep me meaningfully occupied. not forgetting the mooncakes we get to eat and the very frequent free drinks fellow colleagues buy us. there is much fun and laughter in the office and this makes time seem to go by even faster than it already has been!

i bought my lego minifigs here and no they are not LAGO or LEGI as many are led to believe. Original, series 2 figures that are slightly more expensive than in Singapore, but would likely be sold out by the time I get back. so the kiasu me had to buy it first just in case no stocks are left by the time i get back (and i don't want to be held at ransom, knowing that prices skyrocket the moment they are declared off the production line) it shall be soon when series 1 and 2 reunite back home!

haven't really slept very well until last night where i slept for 11 hours straight. felt like the sleep debts were cleared (together with some interest payments) and i started the day feeling awesomely fresh. something that hasn't happened probably since coming here.

moving onto the weather report, cold winds have arrived and its indeed a refreshing change. imagine this, the sun still shines brightly everyday, but everywhere you go there's this air that feels like an air condition at 24 degrees blowing at you. this weather, with this maple tree in its full green glory basking under the afternoon sun was exactly what i experienced in school today. a pity i did not have my camera with me but it is something that will be remembered as a lovely autumn afternoon here in shanghai.

onto other random stuff.. sometime last week while i was randomly surfing facebook an interesting thing caught my attention.

seriously, what are the chances that 2 of my very good friends both appearing in the column which prompts me to spam their wall or interact with them on fb? either fb is plain stupid or its acting smart.

and then there's another friend who was trying to spike me over the hari raya holiday back in singapore..

think the words are abit small, but yeah instead of trying to bring across the idea that people in singapore got a friday off, he was most likely eating sour grapes off our conversation when i highlighted the fact that here in china there will be a 3 day mid-autumn holiday followed by a 9 day national day holiday, all within 3 weeks. that makes it 6 working days starting next week all the way till the second week of October. if this isn't awesome i really don't know what else is.

finally, onto the grand travel plans for the national day week. its confirmed, bar the failure of getting the train tickets to lhasa, I'M OFF TO TIBET! it is very difficult to contain the excitement of going there, seeing mount everest from the everest base camp, and visiting namco lake (go google and be wowed) but of course i should know clearer that the higher the expectations, the greater the disappointment when reality deviates from the ideal trip. so yea trying to go there by telling myself that i must first suffer and endure.....

this is no joke. shanghai to lhasa (capital of tibet) takes 50 hours by train, though its the best way there since tibet is 3000-4000m above sea level, as compared to shanghai's 4 metres, so to prevent high altitude sickness (basically seasick like symptoms but this time due to the lack of oxygen on such high ground) and they say the view along the way is superb. it also dawned upon me that china is so obscenely huge that even if i were to fly to lhasa, it will take almost 6 hours. to put that into perspective, flying from shanghai to singapore takes slightly less time. it wouldn't be too far off the mark to say that people spend their lives exploring and seeing china.

alright now just hoping that everything will go smoothly, as well as my mum and maid's arrival in less than 12 hours' time! very excited about bringing them around, as well as touring inner mongolia together! but for now i'll sleep another 11 hours and prepare for a great week ahead!
