Haven't updated in a week, its still damn hectic in camp. Everyone's busy, and I haven't been able to actually do any food hunt. Thankfully, since we were covering a special event today, there wasn't a need to book in, and I got a rare chance to have breakfast in Bukit Timah Hawker Centre.

There isn't exactly alot of good food in this hawker centre, I think the pre-renovated one had lotsa good food, but it seems that many stalls have since closed, moved, or simply suffered drops in standard. Other than the fish soup, oyster omelet (ou-rah), and the soya beancurd, everything else taste ordinary.

However, I think a certain Char Kuey Teow deserves a special mention.

The owner of this stall is a near 70-year-old ahpeh, who fries his kuey teow in the most graceful manner I've seen. Its simply a joy to watch. He just makes that delicious plate of sin look so easy. I've tried many times at home, but I was never close. My dad is also a fan of his kueyteow, and I always tagged along whenever my dad said he was going to Bukit Timah Hawker centre. Now that the ahpeh is getting on with his age, he leaves the business to his son, who just can't seem to reproduce that kind of skill in the same plate of food.

I was actually quite surpised to see him at the stall this morning, and of course I didn't give second thought to ordering a plate. I wonder how many more times will I get to watch this ahpeh cook his kueyteow again. Although its not the best per se, compared to the one at Queenstown Hawker Centre, or the one beside Chomp Chomp, this Char Kuey Teow simply has its own unique flavour, which you'll need to eat to believe. Then again, I don't think there's many chances left.
