The latest King of Fighters game, KOF Maximum Impact regulation A. Its sad to know that SNK Playmore decides that they shall do away with 2D KOF and go into 3D. While this new series KOF MI is fun, it pales in comparsion with its KOF 94 - 03/XI counterparts, I'm quite sure many KOF fans agree with me. Apart from Iori who looks as cool as he always is, the other characters just don't strike the impression in me. With all due respect to characters I like using, SNKP are obviously still recycling old ideas, like introducing 2 Kyos or 2 Terrys, BORING. I'll be super happy to see them go back to 2D, the way fighting games were designed way back since the original SF.
Speaking of which, its places like the arcade in Bugis where you still see damn old school fighting games like Street Fighter II (a 1989-90 game), Street Fighter Alpha/2/3 (3 is my all-time favourite), Street Fighter 3, a whole range of Marvel/ Marvel vs series (another fantastic series) and of course all the 2D KOF fighters. You'll be surprised to see how many people actually still play the game. The agony of being defeated by the same pro sitting on the other side with 10 straight victories to his belt, or simply being unbeatable as the admiring crowd watching your antics gradually grow in size.
The beauty of good old fighting games. I'm sure they will not buckle under the challenge of time, 3D technology, or games that are simply more fun. They are just special like they always have been. =)
