What can one recall from twelve years ago? Certainly, I remember vividly a 12-year-old kid glued to a particular world cup match and the magic of the french team. I couldn't really recall who the french were playing, but it was played on this a very sunny pitch, involving a spectacular display of attacking football by the french, the legend that was to be Thierry Henry, and some excellent goalkeeping.

I found the clip after a while, and how the years have gone past like that.



As we saw for ourselves how the same team who won the world cup in 1998 have failed so miserably, despite the fact that they still have a pretty decent squad, the most intriguing thing for me must be what's going on through Henry's mind, as he would probably have played his last world cup game and how this team have paled so much in comparison with the likes of Zidane, Deschamps, Blanc, Vieira, Barthez, Desailly and so many more.

Which brings me to another point, that the french have rode on their luck for a fair bit more with Henry's hand, that it was time karma caught up with them. Surely the Irish must be cheering, perhaps pondering the what-ifs had it been them who were playing in South Africa.

Football, you just gotta love the drama.
