happiness in the kitchen

i'm extremely happy today. for the first time since i've learnt cooking, i got to finally prepare some beef for tomorrow's bbq. thanks to daniel and his dad, we've got ourselves some good quality striploin which looks absolutely lovely. spent quite a bit of time marinating it and decided to split up the 2 kilograms of beef into 2 different flavours.

1kg is marinated in my standard chinese sauce mixture of five spices, chilli powder, soy sauce, pepper, oyster sauce, abit of black vinegar and a handful of onions and garlic. i'm hoping the standard marinade which i usually use for other meats will work on beef too.

the other kilo is a more interesting experiment. its meant to be more western with generous amounts of basil, rosemary and thyme. would have liked ground black pepper but ran out of it so i resorted to the black pepper sauce daniel brought. quite overwhelming as i poured over the mixture and it ended up smelling like black pepper only. hopefully some of that basil or rosemary will still be brought out over the grill. to complete my experiment, i threw in onions and a can of beer. hohoho extremely exciting combination.

let's see what tomorrow evening brings.
