Ahhh, the pleasures of a bowl of turtle soup. This heavenly tonic of a soup used to accompany me at dinners or suppers back when I was 5 or 6 yrs old. That characteristic jinseng, wolfberry and some other chinese herbs you don't see that often, together with the chewy tissue found in the turtle.... its a delicacy that all should get to try. Then again, before you start accusing me of cruelty, or eating endangered animals, do be reminded that these turtles are reared in the same fashion as the chickens, ducks, pork, lamb, beef you eat for lunch. Yes in a way, wild caught creatures always taste better than their domestic counterparts, but since its pretty much a sin to feast on a creature that is already so rare, we'll just have to settle for the next best thing.
This soup has got very cooling properties, helps keep you hydrated. Haha, I don't really know how to put it, but you've got heaty food like fried drumsticks, oyster omlettes, char quey tiao, and you got those that are opposite in nature. For those who dare to try, I could invite you over the next time I get to drink it again. Having said that, even reared turtle meat is expensive, the pot you see in there is half a turtle, costing about $15. I could eat so many other stuff with the same amount of money... =/
Oh well, school's been good, but teaching is really not so easy. 300+ students, piles of workbooks to go through, and I haven't even started doing practicals, plus the quizes and tests to be set. This is only what a relief teacher does, imagne those full-timers! I really appreciate what the teachers did back in secondary school, all the spoon-feeding, the endless nagging for homework due, its really not as easy as you think.
5 more months, I wonder if its long or not. Then again, many things in between to look forward to. Keeping my fingers crossed for good times to come.
